Past Presidents of JAGA                                                  DATE 7/1/06

Past President Meeting     San Jose C.C.    June 7, 2006

Meeting called to order by PP73 Kelly at 11:00. In attendance were Fred Seely ’83, Ed Witten ’88, Bill Black 93-94, Bob Clayton ’95-96, Carl Arnold ’99-00, Bart O’Leary ’01-02, Jim Andrews , current President, and Earl Kelly ‘73.

First up was President Andrews who made a brief report on current JAGA activities. This generated some lively discussions and led into the general discussion period where each PP had a say on the various items. The general reactions of the group were favorable to the present operation and advised President Andrews of their support.

The discussions resulted in several recommendations.

Tournaments.

All tournament chairmen should be required to follow the recommended procedures established for running a JAGA event.

This would specifically include requiring and confirming handicaps from each entry as provided by the players member club. All players must be members of a current member club. These two requirements have been keystones of the organization since inception and should required for all JAGA tournaments.

Directors.

The number of directors from each club should be limited to two.

Originally, each club was required to provide one member. This was changed to allow two directors with only one vote from each club. Later, both directors were considered eligible to vote. As long as guests are welcome at meetings there seems to be no great need to expand the number of directors.

The group discussed a situation where there appear to be three directors from one club. This can occur when a President (who becomes an at-large life time member as Past President) ops to become “at large” and his spot as a director for his club is filled by an additional club member. This should not happen until the president becomes a past president but it has happened. It was suggested that this be cleared up by the executive committee and brought to the directors with a recommendation.

It was agreed that there is no need to have an annual or regularly scheduled PP meeting.

It was agreed that some regular JAGA meeting should be designated as a meeting to recognize all past presidents. This as a practice started in 1973 and continued for many years. Kelly agreed to communicate to all past presidents and remind them that they are actually active, voting members and are welcome at all regular meetings.

During the meeting the attendees took advantage of a delicious luncheon and the discussions continued until 1:20 PM when the meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,
