JAGA Meeting - Amelia National Golf & Country Club - Tuesday May 17, 2011 Officers Present: Bob Streightiff, Joe Power, Barney Poston, Tom Tierney, Jerry Kay, Arch Copeland & Gary Owensby Call To Order - Bob Streightiff called the meeting to order at 10:30am. Introduction of Host- Bob introduced Golf Pro Todd McDonald, who welcomed us and proclaimed the course in great shape. Moment of Silence - for the departed and for the Troops Director and Guest Introductions Reports Treasurer - we have in excess of $13,350 in the current account but with various liabilities to be realized. Secretary - there were no corrections or comments on the previous meeting minutes. VP Tournaments - Match Play - June 3-5 - we have 26 entries with goal of signing up 32 entries. Fathers Day - Jun 25-26 - applications are coming in on track. Volunteers are needed. City Amateur - Jul 21 - 24 - we may need a qualifier depending on the level of interest in the tournament. Junior Tournament - Jul 28 - 29 - organization is ongoing. VP Administration Our next meeting will be at the San Jose Country Club with invitations extended to Club Pros, GMs and Superintendents. Our financials have been submitted to the IRS and we are optimistic about receiving a favorable ruling and regularization of out tax status. Web Master The web site is working well. We are still looking for help with Web maintenance. Scholarships Tom gave an overview of the Trust and announced that we will have 5 slots available this year for new scholarships. Applications are bring accepted. Detailed Trust reporting is available on the web site. A scholarship tournament is being planned for October to boost monies available for the Trust. Marsh Creek donated $2925 to the Scholarship Fund. Old Business JAGA shirts are sold out and more will be ordered. Freedom Fighter shirts will be available at the next meeting. The open position for Treasurer is still there. Bob reviewed several options for handling these duties and hopes to have something firm to announce at the next meeting. Bob discussed our first ever available Budget figures for 2011. See Bob if you would like to review the numbers. Based on this new budget and actual budget performance, JAGAs contribution to the Scholarship Trust fund will be reviewed at years end. New Business The idea of a new logo for JAGA was brought up but there was not much appetite for this topic among the membership, where is was voted down. Speaker David Gates, a local golf store owner/operator was introduced by Steve Wyand. Dave gave a talk about his involvement in golf, starting at age 3 with his first golf club, to his local retail store career which began with his first store opening in 1984 in Orange Park. The talk was peppered with stories and examples of his sales experience and encounters with some of golf’s legends. He reiterated what we all knew, that the retail side of the golf business is taking a big hit with the current economic recession. HIs Southside store would appreciate our patronage.
