JAGA DIRECTORS MEETING MINUTES
SELVA MARINA COUNTRY CLUB
APRIL 20, 2010
OFFICERS IN ATTENDANCE: Jim Edwards, Bob Streightiff, Joe Power, Gary Owensby, Tom Tierney and Jerry Kay.
CALL TO ORDER: Meeting was called to order at 10:35 by Pres. Edwards. He thanked Joe Fitzgerald for his help in hosting the meeting.
INTRODUCTION OF CLUB PRO: Tim Peterson said he came to Selva Marina from Timuquana 18 years ago. He said he remembered the last time JAGA was at Selva Marina, Don Barker reminded him he had forgotten the cookies and ice cream for desert. He didn’t forget this time. He said the greens are a work in progress. He also said we would be given a certificate for a 4some for cart only fee.
MOMENT OF SILENCE: Pres. Jim asked for a moment of silence to thank our troops and those less fortunate.
INTRODUCTION OF DIRECTORS AND GUESTS: We had 34 directors and guests attending the meeting.
TREASURER’S REPORT: Jerry Kay said we have $11,559, of which $1,480.44 is from the Amateur and $1,925.70 is from the Seniors.
SECRETARY’S REPORT: Gary said last month’s minutes are on the web site. They were accepted and seconded.
VICE PRES. OF TOURNAMENTS: Joe reported that the 2-man at Panther Creek was cancelled, due to lack of entries.
Joe asked for an update from Larry Dismore on the Father-Son Tournament. Bob Streightiff gave an update of the upcoming Amateur tournament. He said he was already getting entries.
Gary Owensby gave a wrap up of the Senior’s Tournament, thanking the volunteers from JAGA as well as Eagle Harbor. The tournament had 106 entries this year and was able to raise a record amount. This year the board has decided to give $500 of the proceeds to the scholarship fund and the balance to be put in a separate fund for tournament funding.
It was suggested that perhaps someone from JAGA meet with the north Florida chapter of the PGA, the north Florida Junior‘s etc. to coordinate activities calendars.
VICE PRES. OF ADMINISTRATION: Bob Streightiff reminded us that next month’s meeting will be at Jax. Beach.
WEBMASTER’S REPORT: Barney is out of town, traveling in California.
SCHOLARSHIP COMM. Tom Tierney said everything was ok with scholarships. Applications will start coming in soon.
Jim Edwards presented a check of $276.40 from the Pro-Pres. Ray Gottschalk presented a check from Sawgrass C.C. Men’s Assoc. for $9,330. Well done guys.
OLD BUSINESS: If your club has not paid their dues by June 1, you will not be able to attend meetings. Next year, dues must be paid by April 1. By Jan. 1, we will ask directors to take bill to home club for payment, in case it has been overlooked.
NEW BUSINESS: Tom Tierney went over procedure of how to sponsor a student for scholarship. He reiterated that students must go through a director.
Last year we had 26 applications. Tom said he just doesn’t have time to contact each director, make corrections, etc. We will adopt the interview system this year. He said we will have a minimum of 4 new scholarships this year, and set June 22 as the deadline for applications. There are 27 students on scholarship now.
Joe Power discussed need for volunteers for our tournaments. Each director needs to help one time per year, directly or indirectly. We also need to be recruiting new directors and new golf clubs to be members. He also discussed the beginning of the Championship Tournament Fund, referred to earlier.
Gary Owensby discussed an idea of having a JAGA Day at our clubs to raise money for tournaments.
Miles King said he would not be supporting the Amateur Tournament financially any more. He said we need more corporate sponsors to help with our 3 major tournaments.
GUEST SPEAKER: No speaker this month. This was a working meeting.
PAIRINGS COORDINATOR: Pat Caffrey went over tournament for today.
BLESSING FOR LUNCH: Don Barker gave the blessing.
MEETING ADJOURNED: Meeting ended at 11:40 for lunch.
