Jacksonville Area Golf Association JAGA BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING
OFFICERS IN ATTENDANCE: Jim Edwards, Bob Streithtiff, Joe Power, Gary Owensby, Barney Poston, Tom Tierney, Jerry Kay and Lee Crowe. Meeting was convened at 12:15. Earl Kelly: Said he is searching for a way to market the “ History of JAGA in the 1900’s”. He has put together a history , stopping at year 2000. He said he needs pictures to go with the narrative. Since old JAGA minutes are not detailed, he researched records, personal interviews, etc. He asked the board to review the 50 page historical record and give their appraisal and suggestions. Earl feels it could be a way to raise money for the scholarship fund. Earl also discussed the possible need for an annual recognition dinner. Our pro-president has evolved into no more than a pro-am. In the 70’s, they would have lunch, tournament, then a cocktail party and dinner. It was an event, a happening, if you will. Bob Streightiff: Suggested we have officers and past presidents wear blue blazers to meetings. Later, we can have JAGA pocket emblems made. The idea is to bring more formality and decorum to meetings. Tom Tierney: We need to try and recruit a higher quality of director in the future; that is, one that will be more active. The blazer suggestion was discussed and agreed upon. It will start with the next meeting. President Jim Edwards opened up the meeting to discussion. Bob Streightiff: We still need to work on getting replacements for Barney and Al. Gary Owensby: Joe Fitzgerald has discussed with me the idea of taking over the father-son tournament. He just wants to work with Barney this year to get Barney’s expertise; then, feels he can take it over completely. Joe Power: Asked that each tournament director give him a list of volunteer requirements for his tournament. Credit Cards: Joe discussed the situation with us using credit cards for payment in our meetings and tournaments. There was much discussion and was agreed that Jerry Kay and Joe Power would work with a local bank to get the ball rolling. It was also agreed that, to start with, credit cards would not be used to pay for monthly meetings. Barney Poston: Discussed Pay Pal, saying there is no set up fee and if you run an event under $3000, they charge 3% plus 30cents. Of course, you will have cancellations, etc. Suggestion was we charge a cancellation fee to cover our charges. There was more discussion on credit card use, tournament short falls and better director activity in the future. Meeting was adjourned at 2:30
