OLD BUSINESS: Pres. Jim reiterated that we need new blood in the organization and asked directors to help recruit new younger members when openings are available.
NEW BUSINESS: Pres. Jim discussed the recent board of director’s meeting in which the board voted to go to Blue Golf for tournaments and meetings. This will enable us to become more organized and modern. We need to get into the 21st century.
Joe Power discussed the Jr. Tournament and the template G. Halvorsen developed, and how it can be used by other tournament chairmen. He said we don’t want NFJG to control the tournament information. Thus, the need for Blue Golf. Joe reviewed the costs, which are $500 start up fee, $175 per month and a fee for each player, depending on the size of the field. He said overall, it will run about $5 to $6 per event player. Blue Golf will do such things as provide score cards, score board aid, training, making up tee times etc. To help cover costs, we want to go up $25 to $200 per year to the clubs for JAGA membership.
Jim Andrews asked what would be the benefits. Barney Poston said it will take a lot off his back for the web site. All he will have to do is link to the web site thru Blue Golf.
George Halvorsen said 90% of the entry fees for the Jr. Tourn. were paid by credit card. He explained that pairings can be done alphabetically. We can establish how awards are achieved, who has done what. We can sign up and will be obligated for one year.
Joe explained that there are 2 issues here: Blue Golf and use of credit card payment, which is a separate issue.
Ed Tormollen : “As Al, Barney and me know, it will alleviate a lot of work on our part. I think it is worth it.”
Ed Seely: “I have never heard of Blue Golf.” Barney said they have quite an extensive list of clients, including the PGA qualifying school, N. Florida PGA Section also used it.
Bob Streightiff explained the fixed costs per year. He also reminded us that we have talked about the need to get more help for tournaments.
Fred Seely said many clubs are experiencing financial difficulties and even $5 could curtail participation.
Pres. Jim said the board has taken that into consideration, and to get the ball rolling, the members of the board have contributed $100 each. He asked that other directors consider a contribution.
Dr. Middlekauff made a motion to sign with Blue Golf.
Al Levene said it wouldn’t work that well. Someone still has to type in the participants. It’s not a cure all.
Earl Strickland recommended we table the motion for 1 month.
Lee Crowe pointed out that the board of directors have already voted to do it.
Jim Andrews: “Can the board spend our money without a vote?”
A vote determined to table the issue for 1 month
GUEST SPEAKER: Fred Seely introduced Jim Kuhn as our guest speaker. Fred said that in his third year with theJAGA, he was pres. and Jim was pres. of the N. Florida chapter of the PGA. He said Jim stepped up and helped.
