Jacksonville Area Golf Association Directors Meeting Panther Creek Golf Club August 19, 2008
Officers Present: Lee Crowe, Jerry Kay, Bob Streightiff, Joe Power, Jim Andrews, Jim Edwards and Barney Poston. Absent: Tom Tierney. President-Lee Crowe called the meeting to order at 10:25 AM. Immediately after a Welcome from Panther Creek’s Head Pro, Will Newman, Lee welcomed back Ed Babola and Duke Schneider, asked that we remember Southern Oaks owner, Mr. Brooks, who recently passed and pray for Ray Gottschalk’s wife who was recently diagnosed with cancer. Thereafter, a moment of silence for officers who have passed away and all others was observed. Then 48 directors and guests were introduced to one another. Treasurer, Jerry Kay reported a treasury balance of $15,239.82 which includes $9,875.43 from the City Amateur, 2-man and Jr. Tournaments. The JAGA balance of $5,364.39 remains. Secretary’s Report - Joe Power’s Minutes of the July Directors meeting, as previously posted on the Web site, were approved. Webmaster – Barney Poston reported that (1) the Web site had its greatest number of “hits” during the City Amateur, (2) Make sure you include your USGA index when signing up, (3) get your picture taken for the Web site if you are new (or have aged since your last pose) and (4) new software is expected to be up and working real soon. Vice President–Tournaments, Bob Streightiff reported : (1) The JAGA City Amateur was a great success. It was won by Tom Murray on the third hole of sudden death with an eagle. (2) Thanks to Steve Wyand, Ed Tormollen and Al Levene , the 2- Man at Saugrass Country Club on August 4th went very well. (3) The Bill Black Tournament on September 8th at the Ponte Vedra Inn and Club needs players! (4) The Juniors Tournament, set for September 13 and 14, needs players and volunteers. Contact Al Levene if you can assist with either need. (5) October 20th is the next 2-man at San Jose Country Club. (6) New directors should pick up a JAGA ball marker and clip. (7) JAGA Hats ($15) and Visors ($10) are now on sale.
Vice President-Administration, Jim Edwards reported (1) the next JAGA directors meeting will be Tuesday, September 16, beginning at 10:30 AM at the Deerfield Lakes Golf and Country Club. (2) The Directors Meetings for 2009 are all but finalized (two meetings will be contracted soon) and will be listed on the Web site for your planning calendars. (3) The probability of falling trees and/or lighting during one of our JAGA tournaments is cause for a review of our liabilities and possibility of Insurance. Stay tuned. (4) Attempts to avoid Scheduling conflicts are being made. More on that later.
Old Business – None
New Business – (1) Steve Wyand reported that Jim Furyk has agreed to be our Guest Speaker at the JAGA Directors meeting on October 21st at Windsor Parke Golf Club.
Scholarship Committee - accepted a contribution to the JAGA Scholarship Trust from Howard Whitaker and The Southern Oaks Country Club. The total of $3,685 included $150 from Boots Farley, an additional $100 from the Lake City Community College, and the proceeds from Howard’s Raffle. Thanks to all that contributed.
Guest Speaker – Mike Blackburn was not able to attend the meeting. In the time available, directors generated a number of questions for Jim Furyk to consider, prior to his meeting with us on the 21st of October.
Pairings Coordinator, Ed Tormollen asked us to double check all information that we submit when signing up to play.
New Directors – Shirts are available from Ed Witten for $25; Badges from Arch Copeland are free.
The Blessing for Lunch was given by Lee Crowe.
