Jacksonville Area Golf Association Directors Meeting Country Club of Orange Park February 12, 2008
Officers Present: Lee Crowe, Jerry Kay, Jim Andrews, Joe Power, Jim Edwards, Barney Poston, and Tom Tierney. Absent: Bob Streightiff. President, Lee Crowe called the meeting to order at 10:30 AM. Lee announced that Ed Witten is recovering and doing better. Cards and/or calls are in order. President Crowe asked for a moment of silence for all deceased JAGA members and for all those suffering due to injury and/or illness. Introductions of Directors and guests amounted to 48 including Director John Arms of the Fleming Island Golf Club. Welcome John. Guest Speaker, - Charles Raulerson is General Manager of the CC of Orange Park. He had many fond memories of the early 70’s and competition in the Junior’s and Father/Son tournaments sponsored by JAGA. While growing up, much of Charles’s time was spent playing golf at Hyde Park. Kenny Kenville provided many memories of tug of war Junior matches at Selva Marina. Charles concluded with a sincere Thank You to JAGA for all that it had done for him and all that is being done for youth through Scholarships. Treasurer, Jerry Kay reported that we have $9,276.78 in the bank. $6,300 represents income from Clubs for Annual Dues. Presently eleven clubs are delinquent in payment. Those remaining in arrears will be listed in March. Secretary’s Report, Joe Power will make amendments to the posted Feb. Minutes in the areas of spelling. The minutes were approved as amended. Vice President–Tournaments, Bob Streightiff’s report was made by Jim Edwards. The 2008 Tournament Schedule is posted on the JAGA web site. Next up is the 2 man series event at Deerwood on March 17th. Sign up early. Also, sign up for the JAGA Seniors Championship at Eagle Harbor in April. Vice President-Aministration, Jim Edwards announced that the 2009 schedule is currently being set up. If your Club has not hosted a Directors Meeting in the past three years, consider doing so and let Jim know ASAP. Scholarship Committee Chairman- Tom Tierney said that an effort is being made to fully fund the Endowment for Scholarships and a backing off of Scholarships from 35 to 25 will be phased in. Currently, 35 grants of $3000 are being made to students. If you have a candidate for JAGA scholarship, have the paper work (applications) in before July 1, 2008. Web Master-Barney Poston reported that the recent mix up with the sign up system on our Web site has been remedied. Let Barney know immediately of any problems that you encounter with the JAGA web site. Old Business– None. Newly recovered, Welcome back Earl Strickland. New Business (1) Steve Wyand and Fred Seely request that any suggestions for speakers be forwarded to them for consideration. (2) Jim Andrews has room for more volunteers at The Players hole #2 this May, see Jim if interested. (3) Keep The Golf News informed of various events at your clubs. (4) Jim Edwards complimented Al Levene and Ed Tormollen for the fine work that they do with our JAGA tournaments. (5) The host club’s Charles Raulerson gave JAGA a check in the amount of $880 for the Scholarship Fund. $880 represented the amount of revenue that the CC of Orange Park was to receive from the 44 attendees at today’s meeting. Thank You Charles for your most thoughtful and generous gift to JAGA. The Blessing was given by Earl Kelly. The Meeting Adjourned at 11:20 AM.
