Directors Meeting

Jacksonville Beach Golf Club

August 21, 2007

 

Officers Present:  Lee Crowe, Jerry Kay, Joe Power, Bob Streightiff, Jim Edwards, Barney Poston, Tom Tierney, and Jim Andrews. 

 

President,  Lee Crowe called the meeting to order at 10:28 AM. Lee informed us that George Halvorsen is doing much better following his surgery. A moment of silence to remember and honor past members followed. Mr. Sean Mulcahey welcomed us to Jax   Beach Golf Club and thanked JAGA for its upcoming September 15th-16th Juniors Tournament. Directors and guests totaling 45 were introduced.
 

Treasurer, Jerry Kay reported a treasury of various incomes and expected expenditures. When all coins come to rest, the treasury Base is $3838.97.
 

Secretary’s Report, Minutes of the June meeting were posted on the JAGA Web site. An amendment was made to the reported winning score of the JAGA City Amateur Tournament. Thereafter, the minutes were approved as amended.
 

Vice President-Aministration, Jim Edwards announced sites for the 2008 Directors meetings. The first quarter of the year will include Palencia in January, Orange Park in February, Marsh Landing in March and Queens Harbor in April of 2008. See Jim Edwards about your club and its involvement in future JAGA meetings.

Vice President–Tournaments, Bob Streightiff
, reported on the Ponte Vedra 4 Ball tournament played on August 20th. Sixty-four teams competed in three divisions. Pay outs were awarded to nearly half  the field. If your team played in this event, you are guaranteed entry in the second 4 Ball (upon proper payment of fees) to be held at San Jose Country Club on October 22, 2007. Ponte Vedra 4-Ball winners included: Senior Net Division – Lee Crowe and Jerry Dean, (60); Net Division – Skip Lundsford and Brian Cook, (63) and Scratch Division – Don Branske and Ken Arsenault, (68). Congratulations all.  

Lee Crowe
reported that the 5th Annual Bill Black Memorial tournament will be held on September 10th at the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club. Past tournaments have produced approximately $26,000 towards the JAGA trust for Scholarships. Get a hole in one and you will have to decide what to do with the new Mercedes Benz that you will receive.   The JAGA Junior Tournament is scheduled for September 15th and 16th at Jacksonville Beach Golf Club. Get some young golfers from your club to signup and consider volunteering some of your time to this event.               

Scholarship Committee Chairman- Tom Tienery  
reported that the Scholarship Committee recently raised the amount of the Semester stipends from $1000 to $1500. JAGA scholarships now amount to $3000 per year. JAGA currently is awarding 34 scholarships to youth throughout the area. If you were instrumental in assisting a youth in obtaining a scholarship, keep in touch with that youngster and make sure he or she keeps Tom up to date with their semester schedules and grades. Currently, five scholars are deficient in the reporting that is required. Contributions to the JAGA Scholarship Fund: $250 from Joe Wyzkoski, owner of Magnolia Point; $250 from the Magnolia Point Men’s Club; $385 from the City Amateur Tournament; $1000 from the Ponte Vedra 4-Ball Tournament and $7394 from the Selva Marina Country Club.
 

Web Master-Barney Poston suggested that careful attention be applied to filling on-line Meeting Reservation entries.
 

Old Business – Ed Witten has JAGA shirts available, in all sizes, for $22.
 

New Business – Bob Streightiff asked Directors to give thought to what more JAGA might or could do to give back to the golf community. Perhaps sponsor an Assistant Pro as he/she moves towards an A card. Give it some thought for discussion in the future.

Jim Andrews encouraged all clubs to have 2 to 3 active directors to JAGA. Lee Crowe asked that all JAGA directors be as diligent as possible in meeting attendance.  

Announcements -  (1) Next months meeting is Tuesday September 18th at Cimarrone Golf Club. (2) The JAGA Junior Tournament will be September 14th and 15th at the Jax Beach Golf Club. (3) The Pro-President will be held December 3rd at the Deerwood Country Club. (4) Fred Seeley reported that the Executive Director of the Players Championship, Mr. Ron Cross, will be the Guest Speaker at Cimarrone. (5) Al Levene informed and invited us to participate in the weekly Jax Beach Game. It takes place at 11am, every Thursday at a cost of $20 for the game and $20 for the special (skins). Come one and all.
 

Guest Speaker – Kathy Harbin has been General Manager of World Golf Village since June of 1997. She and her entire staff are committed to make every persons experience at World Golf Village a WOW one. It is not easy. However, an effective interview process leads to committed, nice employees who are thoroughly trained to become perfection seeking participants in making everyone’s visit a memorable one. Thank you Kathy for helping us know and understand some of the “behind the scenes” involvements of World Golf Village.
 

Pairings Coordinator, Ed Tormollen announced the  pairings for the day’s golf.
