Directors Meeting Marsh Landing Country Club April 17, 2007
Officers Present: Lee Crowe, Jerry Kay, Bob Streightiff, Joe Power, Barney Poston, Jim Andrews and Tom Tierney. Absent: Jim Edwards.
President, Lee Crowe called the meeting to order at 10:28 AM and immediately asked for a few moments of silence in memory of the victims at Virginia Tech and in the Middle East. Thereafter, Rob Kohlhass, Marsh Landings’ Director of Golf, welcomed all present. Sixty five Directors and their guests were then introduced.
Secretary’s Report, Minutes of the March meeting were approved as presented on the Web site.
Treasurer, Jerry Kay reported a balance of $7853.02 in the treasury. Clubs that are in arrears include: North Hampton, Palatka and Panther Creek. Directors are encouraged to facilitate dues payment.
Vice President–Tournaments, Bob Streightiff, had each Tournament report. Joe Power reported that the Senior Championship proved to be a very successful event with 101 entries. It is estimated that some 1200 will be generated for the JAGA Scholarship Fund. The 2 man at Orange Park is Alternate Shot on May 14th. Earl Strickland still needs help for this event. To date, a total of 10 teams are entered. Get your entries in. Terry Williams reported on the Fathers Day event, scheduled for June 23 and 24 at Hidden Hills. E-mail invitations went out to approximately 100 who have previously participated. Directors can assist by passing out entry forms at their Clubs. Barney asked Directors to obtain donated prizes for the event and indicated that Hole signs will be sold for $75. City Amateur. Bob Streightiff needs a list of the 10 best players from each Club, both name and address, for invitations to the City Amateur. This list should be given to Bob no later than June 1st. Bob also reminded clubs to become Handicapped Certified. This process can be done “On Line”.
Vice President-Administration, Jim Edwards was not present for a report.
Webmaster – Barney Poston, announced the new feature of Map Pins through Google on our web site. Check it out. The site has been secured for 2 more years. If Barney does not have your picture, SMILE.
Scholarship Chairman, Tom Tierney announced that many cards and donations have arrived in memory of Bill Black. Scholarship contributions received from: Country Club of Orange Park $500, The Plantation at Ponte Vedra (an additional) $125, San Jose Country Club Men's Golf Assn $1000, Deerwood Country Club (additional) $345, Bill Black $6000 (Jerry Kay informed us that this was one of the last checks that Bill had written before he died.) All applications for JAGA Scholarships must be in by the May 15th meeting. Get them to Tom Tierney.

New Business- Jim Andrews reminded us that JAGA marshals Hole #2 at The Players (TPC). If any one is still interested in working, one spot remains. Don Haws reported on volunteer work involving Tax Preparation for senior citizens through the AARP. This rewarding experience can be yours. See Don for more information. Arch Copeland wants to see your Name Badge. If you don’t have one or need a new one, see Arch about one very soon. Fred Seely told us of next months speaker, Bobby Weed, before he introduced Dave Reese.
Guest Speaker – David Reese, President of Florida’s First Coast of Golf gave a thorough presentation of the 501(c)6 non-profit groups’ positive impact upon the First Coast. This cooperative effort in promoting golf in the area includes Nassau, St. John, Duval, Clay and Flagler counties and their tourist boards. The bottom line for this area is: $114,000,000 into the economy ( that results in 2.4 million dollars in sales tax), 768 jobs, 172,000 rounds of golf and 173,000 room nights associated with those rounds. 40,000 Bag Tags have been prepared for “inbound” distribution at airport counters while 86,000 bags were counted going out of the area.
