Directors Meeting
Officers Present: Lee Crowe, Jerry Kay, Bob Streightiff, Jim Edwards, Joe Power, Barney Poston, Jim Andrews and Tom Tierney. President, Lee Crowe called the meeting to order at 10:31 AM and immediately asked for a few moments of silence in memory of BILL BLACK and all past deceased Directors. Thereafter, Hidden Hills General Manager, Russ Libby welcomed everyone, thanked all for the work we do for youth and expressed his sorrow for Bill Black’s passing. Lee then informed us of arrangements for Bill’s funeral. Jim Todd will be the primary speaker. Many tributes to Bill Black were already in the media. Sixty three Directors and their guests were introduced. Secretary’s Report, was approved as presented on the Web site. Treasurer, Jerry Kay reported a balance of $5169.98 with all bills paid. Clubs that need to become current include: Blue Cypress, Gainesville, Laural Island Links, Magnolia Point, North Hampton, Osprey Cove, Palatka, Panther Creek and Southern Oaks. Directors are encouraged to facilitate dues payment. Vice President–Tournaments, Bob Streightiff, had each Tournament report. Jim Edwards, for the 2-man at Deerwood, reported that 96 participated in the recent event that generated $615 for Scholarships. Thanks go out to Bob Streightiff, Al Levene, Jerry Dean, Al Miller and all other who helped out. Joe Power reported that the Senior Championship event currently has 46 entries; directors are encouraged to get more enrolled from their Clubs. The Senior’s will be held April 2, 3 and 4, at Eagle Harbor. Getentries to Joe Power as soon as possible. The 2 man at Orange Park is Alternate Shot on May 14th. Earl Strickland still needs help for this event. Finally, Terry Williams reported on the Fathers Day event, scheduled for June 23 and 24 at Hidden Hills. Each Club’s Directors should get a list of the 10 best players by index, with names and addresses for the City Amateur. Lists should get to Bob Streightiff as soon as possible. Also, if anyone know of potential sponsors, (ie $5000 or so) let Bob know. Vice President-Administration, Jim Edwards requested suggestions for next year’s speakers. Scholarship Chairman, Tom Tierney accepted Scholarship contributions from: Cimarrone Men’s Association - $500 Timuquana Country Club - $3990 Eagle Harbor Golf Association - $1000 North Florida Sr. Golf Assoc. - $500 The Plantation at Ponte Vedra - $4535 Marsh Creek - $1575 All the communities and associations Fred Seely reported that contributions in memory of Bill Black would go to the JAGA Scholarship Fund. Old Business – None New Business- Bart O’Leary reported that all JAGA affiliated clubs must be in compliance with USGA requirements concerning Handicap Committees. Any one interested in more information should check with the FSGA or USGA web sites or with Bart himself. Fred Seely reported that Dave Reese would be next months guest speaker. Jim Andrews reminded us that JAGA marshals Hole #2 at The Players (TPC). If anyone is still interested in working, contact Jim.
Tim Tresca, Chairman of TPC (L) and Lee Crowe, JAGA President Guest Speaker – Tim Tresca, the 41st Chairman for TPC, addressed the group with highlights of changes: 1) TPC will be referred to as “The Players” 2) Date of The Players will move to May 7-13 3) North Florida will truly be in the spotlight 4) The new Clubhouse will be Timeless 5) Many course renovations have been made: 7 inches of new topsoil, better drainage, firmer, #6 and #12 were changed, #17 mounding fixed, no free parking on site (except for volunteers), all in all a more difficult course to play. 6) Many volunteer positions available, including driving cars back to dealers after the tournament. Announcements - Barney Poston made us aware that Bill Black had enrolled for today’s meeting on the JAGA web site. Pairings Coordinator, Ed Tormollen stated that those wishing to be paired as a group should let him know in advance. Note it at enrollment.
