Directors Meeting
Deerfield Lakes Golf and Country Club February 20, 2007 Bill Black Day Photos
Officers Present: Lee Crowe, Bill Black,
Jerry Kay, Bob Streightiff, Jim Edwards, Joe Power, Barney Poston, Jim
Andrews and Tom Tierney.
President, Lee Crowe, called the meeting to
order at 10:30A.M. and immediately declared this as BILL BLACK DAY.
Thanks were extended to Al Levene for large sigh in Bill's honor.
Deerfield Lakes head professional, Justin
Braddock welcomed all those gathered and explained certain
conditions for play. The Directors then introduced themselves and
their guests. A total of 51 were in attendance. NAS Director,
Andrzejewski ask us to keep Director Ed Bobola in our prayers and
thoughts. Ed suffered a "mini-stroke" on February 19th, 2007.
Secretary - Minutes of the JAGA January 16,
2007 meeting at Palencia were
amended to delete the last sentence of New Business " Bob Streightiff
will look at possibilities of Meetings and Golf that more closely follow
Breakfast" from the Minutes as posted on the Web Site. Minutes were then
approved as Amended.
Treasurer, Jerry Kay, reported a treasury
balance of $ 5303.69. with all bills paid. The following clubs have not
as yet paid their dues for this year: Bent
Creek Golf Course, Gainesville Country Club, Jacksonville
Beach Golf Club, Laural Island
Links, Magnolia Point Golf and CC, North Hampton Golf Club,
Osprey Cove Golf Club, Palatka Golf Club, Panther Creek Golf Club
and Southern Oaks Country Club.
Directors, do your best to bring Clubs up to date.
Vice President-Tournaments, Bob Streightiff,
reported on the March 12th Two- Man Tournament at Deerwood. There are
currently 40 teams with a cut off at 52.
Each tournament chairman reported on his upcoming event with the
general plea for volunteer
assistance. If you can assist, see the tournament chairman. Check the
JAGA web site for information and/or applications to JAGA sponsored
Championships. Please note: Individuals from a Club that is not
Handicapped Certified will not be permitted to play in a JAGA
tournament. Tournament Directors
should watch this as well as check handicaps of players in Net events.
Also, Jim Andrews has two JAGA tents for any interested event director.
Vice President-Administration, Jim Edwards,
reported that corrected 11x17
JAGA posters were available for directors.
Scholarship Chairman, Tom Tierney, submitted
a 2006 JAGA Scholarship Trust
Contributions Report. Total Income for 2006 was $80,897.49. 2006
Expenditures amounted to $32,790. A copy of this report will
appear on the Web site in an appropriate area under Scholarships.
Executive Secretary, William "Bill" Black
addressed the Directors. "I've
had many, many good years on this earth and with JAGA. This last year
and a half however, has been
extremely difficult". A rotor root, CT scan, PT Scan,
operations, 38 radiation treatments and "new" medications have
led Bill to
the conclusion to stop it all. "I am going to play out the hand that I was dealt. No BS, it is fast moving, maybe six months. I'm now relying on the Man Upstairs. God bless all of you and God bless America." Following Bills comments, time allowed no less that seventeen directors to express their thanks and appreciation, to Bill, for his: Patience, Encouragement, Mentoring, Consideration, Dependability, Reliability, Goodness, Teaching, Partnership, Assistance, Kindness, Thoughtfulness and Persistence. Yes it was BILL BLACK DAY and may "the rub of the green" allow many more.
OLD BUSINESS: (1) Earl Kelly reported on his
review of By-Laws and Constitution. Amendments were offered to both the
Constitution at Art.4 and to the
By-Laws at Art. 3 for inclusion of the Scholarship Chairman as an
officer with specific
responsibilities to the Scholarship Trust. Motions PASSED. The
revisions can be found in the latest posting of the Constitution
on the Web site.
NEW BUSINESS: None
Announcements: 1) Jim Edwards informed us
that Charlie Hoenstine is
stepping down due to health reasons. 2) Jim Andrews asked that any
interested volunteers, for the TPC (May 7-13), contact him. 3) Al
Miller announced a 1st Tee Get
Together for March 6th , 10AM, at Brentwood.
If you are interested, contact Roland Harley.
Pairings Coordinator, Ed Tormollen, announced
that an excessive number of
absentees are making pairing assignments unnecessarily difficult ( in
addition to a cost loss factor
). Today 60 individuals were signed up, 51 showed. If you
have to cancel for some reason, contact Ed by 6PM on Sunday
evening prior to the meeting. If
that is not possible, at least let Ed know sometime before the
meeting.
