Jacksonville Area Golf Association Officers Present: Jim Andrews, Lee Crowe, Don Haws, Jerry Kay, Bob Streightiff, Tom Tierney Officers Absent: Bill Black, Jim Edwards, Barney Poston President, Jim Andrews, called the meeting to order at 10:32 A.M. with 39 Directors and guests present. The Directors introduced themselves and their guests. Bubba Wilson, Head Professional, welcomed us to the club and thanked JAGA for their support of golf and juniors in the area. Jim thanked Fred Seely of Golf News for their fine support of JAGA. Secretary, Bob Streightiff’s minutes from the last meeting at Southern Oaks Country Club were approved as posted on the web site. Treasurer, Jerry Kay, reported a treasury balance of $9,587.77 with all bills paid. Vice President-Administration, Lee Crowe, informed us Windsor Parke Golf Club will host the next meeting on October 17th. He also said the 2007 meeting schedule is firm with the exception of May. Lee also reported that Bill Black is doing well after his surgery and Duke Schneider is recovering from surgery. In the absence of Vice President-Tournaments, Jim Edwards, Lee Crowe reminded us the final Two Man event is at Timuquana Country Club in October. He reported only a handful of openings remain. Next year’s Two Man tournament will have five specific events to be held at Deerwood CC, Palencia Golf Club, Ponte Vedra Inn & Club & San Jose CC and a site to be named later. He thanked Fred Seely for his support of the Two Man events. The Bill Black Classic at Ponte Vedra Inn and Club was extremely successful with 100 participants. Bart O’Leary, Jim Andrews and Lee Crowe were honored for their support of JAGA. Jim Howard, Director of Golf at PVIC was given an award for his support of JAGA. The living legend award was presented to Jerry Kay. Lee reminded us that the field for the Pro-President on December 4, 2006 at Ponte Vedra Inn & Club will be limited so sign up early. Lee also thanked Al Levene and Ed Tormollen for all their help at tournaments this year. Scholarship Chair, Tom Tierney, informed us 26 students are on scholarship this semester. He thanked the directors and their clubs for their support of the charitable trust and asked them to read the first page of the scholarship application to familiarize themselves with the process. There was discussion among the group regarding the possibility of increasing the yearly amount from $2,000 and reducing the number of scholarships awarded. That decision rests with the board of trustees for the charitable trust. Contributions to the trust were received from the Bill Black Classic ($6,000.00), the City Amateur ($792.95), the MGA and management of Magnolia Point ($500.00), Eagle Harbor Friday group ($150.00), and Hyde Park MGA ($3,600.00). Old Business Ed Witten has some headbands for sale. The JAGA Constitution and By-Laws will be discussed at next month’s meeting. New Business Pat Caffrey suggested we look at ways to involve more directors in the organization’s operations and planning. Bob Streightiff asked the directors to insure their information on the web site is accurate. He also asked for feedback regarding the handicap committees at the various clubs. Most of the directors indicated their clubs have active committees and enforce the USGA rules. Howard Whitaker told us about a fund raiser for Anders Crenshaw to be held at Southern Oaks CC on October 19. Pairings Coordinator, Ed Tormollen, announced the pairings for golf were posted on the carts. The meeting adjourned at 11:30 A.M. Respectively submitted, Bob Streightiff, Secretary |
