Jacksonville Area Golf Association President, Jim Andrews called the meeting to order at 10:32 A.M. with 66 Directors and guests present. The Directors introduced themselves and their guests. Russ Libby, General Manager, welcomed us to the club and thanked the JAGA Directors for their support of amateur golf in the area. Secretary, Bob Streightiff’s minutes from the last meeting at Queen’s Harbour Yacht & CC were approved as amended on the web site. Treasurer, Jerry Kay reported a treasury balance of $5,274.24 with all bills paid, but a contribution to the scholarship fund is yet to be made from the Senior’s Tournament. Vice President-Administration, Lee Crowe thanked the Hidden Hills CC Directors, Barney Poston and Terry Williams, for hosting the meeting. He informed us Magnolia Point Golf & CC will host May’s meeting. Vice President-Tournaments, Jim Edwards, asked for reports from the tournament chairmen. Lee Crowe reminded us the second two man event at Fleming Island Golf Club is already half full. Joe Power indicated the Senior Championship was a big success with 84 entries. Wes Paxon, Jr. won the gross championship. Barney Poston reminded us the Father’s Day tournament will be a Modified Pinehurst event on June 24 & 25 at Hidden Hills CC. He asked for volunteers to work the event. Ed Tormollen and Bob Streightiff indicated that the 2006 City Amateur will be held at Marsh Landing CC and Deerwood Country Club July 13-16, 2006. They once again asked all directors to secure a list of the top 10 golfers from their club according to handicap index and volunteers are needed to help run the event. Scholarship Chair, Tom Tierney, indicated the deadline for applications is the next meeting. A contribution to the trust was received from all the members of Sawgrass Country Club for $9,321.00. Sawgrass CC members have contributed $76,422 to the scholarship fund since 1995. Another contribution was received from the North Florida Youth Sports Foundation in the amount of $500.00. Old Business Jim Andrews thanked those directors who helped marshal on hole #2 at the Players Championship. Ed Tormollen commented on the no shows for our meetings and the hardship it causes him and the host professional. After some discussion, the Directors approved a motion that allows Ed to bill a Director the $45.00 fee if they don’t cancel directly with Ed by noon the Sunday prior to the monthly meeting. Directors are also asked to call Ed if they will be arriving late for the meeting. Bart O’Leary reminded the Directors to insure their club’s handicap committee is certified by the USGA. Jerry Kay read a list of dues delinquent clubs. Barney Poston once again asked the Directors to notify him of the handicap system their respective clubs are using. New Business Fred Seely of the Golf News thanked all the vendors and individuals who donated door prizes for today’s meeting. Numerous prizes were given to Director’s at the conclusion of the golf outing. Fred Seely introduced the guest speaker, Ander Crenshaw, who is a U. S. Representative to Congress from northeast Florida. Ander is an active golfer and is a member at Timuquana Country Club. He offered many comments regarding Congressional politics, items before Congress, the 2006 off-year elections, and his personal experiences at the Ryder Cup in Valderama, Spain. Jim Andrews presented Ander with a gift from JAGA as a thank you. Pairings Coordinator, Ed Tormollen, announced the pairings for the players were posted on a board in the room and on the golf carts. The meeting adjourned at 11:40 A.M.
