Vice President-Administration, Lee Crowe informed us that the March 21st meeting will be held at Queen’s Harbour Yacht & CC in lieu of Ravines Golf Club. He also read a list of clubs which are delinquent for their 2006 dues. Lee reminded the Directors that a monthly meeting cannot be held at a club which is delinquent and urged them to check with their clubs regarding payment of the dues for this year.
Vice President-Tournaments, Jim Edwards, reminded the Directors of the need for volunteers to assist the tournament chairmen this year. Lee Crowe reported the Two Man tournament will be three one-day events this year. The events will be held at Deerwood CC ( Alternate Shot ), Fleming Island GC ( Captains Choice ) and Timuquana CC ( 2 Man Best-Ball ). There will be an end of year award presented to the team which performs the best in all three tourneys based on a points format. Lee has 39 teams registered thus far. Joe Power indicated the Senior Championship will be at Eagle Harbor on April 3-5, 2006. The age groupings for this event are 50-60, 60-70, 70-80 and 80+. The Championship will be held for all three days, the Senior and Grand Senior on the last two days and the Legends on the last day. March 31, 2006 is the sign-up deadline. Barney Poston told us the Father’s Day tournament will be a Modified Pinehurst event on June 24 & 25 at Hidden Hills CC. Ed Tormollen informed us that the Juniors tournament will be at Jacksonville Beach Golf Club on June 27 & 28. He asked for volunteers to help out and indicated they hope to have a field of 100 players. Don Haws indicated that the 2006 City Amateur will be held at Marsh Landing CC and Deerwood Country Club July 13-16, 2006. He once again asked all directors to secure a list of the top 10 golfers from their club according to handicap index and e-mail it to him. Don will send a letter to all these golfers next spring extending an invitation to play in the City Amateur. Thus far only 24 Directors have responded. Don also announced his sub committee. Finally, Jim Edwards announced the revised JAGA calendars are available to be taken back to the clubs.
Scholarship Chair, Tom Tierney, reported 25 scholars are eligible for checks this semester, but he needs assistance contacting two students. A contribution to the trust was received from the Seniors Men’s Club at Champions Club ($250.00). Tom reminded the Directors scholarship applications are due no later than May 31, 2006. He also presented a summary of contributions to the charitable trust for 2005 which totaled $46,489.25.
JAGA Webmaster, Barney Poston, informed us that he has finished scanning all the historical minutes into the JAGA web site. Earl Kelly has written a forward for them. Barney also reviewed the results of the survey he emailed to all Directors last month.
Old Business
Jim Andrews once again thanked Chad Lucovsky of Golf News for his participation in JAGA meetings. He informed the Directors that the Presidents Trophy has been updated to reflect all the winners of the Pro-President Tournament.
New Business
Jim Andrews asked for anyone interested in volunteering at the Players Championship in March to see him for an application and he indicated a raffle is taking place for two tickets to the Masters to benefit Riverside School.
Judd Ammiano raised the issue of JAGA supporting Assistant Professionals in their quest to becoming Class A pros by making a contribution to their organization in Northeast Florida. There was much dialog among the Directors with Don Barker, Ed Witten and Tom Tierney offering specific comments. Jim Andrews indicated that the executive board has reviewed this matter and determined a contribution isn’t necessary. However, Tom and Ed suggested the board keep an open mind and examine the possibility of supporting the assistant pros.
Pairings Coordinator, Ed Tormollen, announced the pairings for the players were posted on the golf carts.
The meeting adjourned at 11:30 A.M.
Respectively submitted,
Bob Streightiff, Secretary |
