Jacksonville Area Golf Association Directors Meeting Timuquana Country Club January 17, 2006 President, Jim Andrews called the meeting to order at 10:31 A.M. with 72 Directors and guests present. The Directors introduced themselves and their guests. Clint Avret, Head Professional, welcomed us to the club and gave us some background information about him. Jim thanked Fred Seely, a Timuquana member, for hosting JAGA and for his continued support of JAGA through the Golf News. Jim also mentioned that Al Levene, Lee Crowe and Don Haws were recognized by Golf News for their volunteer efforts in 2005. He pointed out the numerous articles in the January issue of Golf News pertaining to JAGA. Secretary, Bob Streightiff’s minutes from the last meeting at Cimarrone Golf Club were approved as posted on the web site. Treasurer, Jerry Kay reported a treasury balance of $10,491.00 which includes $5,000.00 to be deposited in the scholarship fund. He also read a list of member clubs which haven’t paid their 2006 dues yet. Vice President-Administration, Lee Crowe reported the 2006 tournament calendar has errors and it will be re-printed. Next month’s meeting is at Fleming Island Golf Club on February 21, 2006. Vice President-Tournaments, Jim Edwards, asked for volunteers to assist the tournament chairmen this year. Lee Crowe reported the Two Man tournament will be three one-day events this year. The events will be held at Deerwood CC, Fleming Island GC and Timuquana CC. There will be an end of year award presented to the team which performs the best in all three tourneys. Warren Healey indicated the Senior Championship will be at Eagle Harbor on April 3-5, 2006. The age groupings for this event are 50-60, 60-70, 70-80 and 80+. The Championship will be held for all three days, the Senior and Grand Senior on the last two days and the Legends on the last day. Barney Poston told us the Father’s Day tournament will be held on June 24 & 25 at Hidden Hills CC. Al Levene informed us that the Juniors tournament will be at Jacksonville Beach Golf Club on June 27 & 28. He asked the Directors to email him a list of junior golfers from their respective clubs. Don Haws indicated that the 2006 City Amateur will be held at Marsh Landing CC and Deerwood Country Club July 13-16, 2006. He once again asked all directors to secure a list of the top 10 golfers from their club according to handicap index and e-mail it to him. Don will send a letter to all these golfers next spring extending an invitation to play in the City Amateur. Thus far only 15 Directors have responded. Scholarship Chair, Tom Tierney, reported 25 scholars from 16 member clubs will receive their checks for this semester. Contributions to the trust were received from Timuquana Country Club ($3,725.00) and Quail Heights MGA ($300.00). Tom reminded the Directors to retrieve scholarship applications from the JAGA website for prospective applicants. JAGA Webmaster, Barney Poston, asked all Directors to review their respective club information and make any necessary corrections on the site. He indicated the JAGA website received 4,236 hits between March 2005 and December 2005. Old Business Arch Copeland reminded the directors to let him know if anyone needs a name badge. Ed Witten reminded the directors he has JAGA shirts available. Bart O’Leary reminded the directors to insure their club’s handicap committee members get certified by the USGA before July 1, 2006. Frank Brough reminded us the Clay County Tournament will be held March 17-19, 2006. This event supports their scholarship fund. Earl Kelly and Barney Poston informed the Directors that the minutes from JAGA meetings are being scanned into our website. We will have minutes dating back to 1956 when Barney is finished. New Business Jim Andrews reminded the meeting participants of the need to volunteer to serve on committees and at our tournaments. There is more to being a JAGA Director than just attending meetings, having lunch and playing golf. Jim also announced that Sawgrass Country Club won the Pro-President Tournament last month at The Plantation at Ponte Vedra. He asked for anyone interested in volunteering at the Players Championship in March to see him for an application. Pairings Coordinator, Ed Tormollen, announced the tees to play and pairings for the players were posted on the golf carts. The meeting adjourned at 11:28 A.M.
