Directors Meeting
South Hampton Golf Club
September 20, 2005 

                         

President, Jim Andrews called the meeting to order at 10:30 A.M. with 48 Directors and guests present.  The Directors introduced themselves and their guests.

Secretary, Bob Streightiff’s minutes from the last meeting at The Champions Club at Julington Creek were approved as posted on the web site.

Treasurer, Jerry Kay reported a treasury balance of $6,074.00 with all bills paid.

Vice President-Administration, Lee Crowe introduced Sean Steele and he picked Bob Streightiff’s number as the winner of October’s meeting fee to be paid by Bailey Publishing. Sean also indicated a check for Tom Tierney’s fee for today will be brought next month. Lee informed the Directors that Bill Black is hospitalized. He also indicated that the Bill Black Classic was a huge success with Mark McCumber as the guest speaker. Fred Seely and Tom Tierney were recognized at the event for their service to JAGA. Earl Kelly received the Living Legend award. The Directors also recognized Lee for his hard work chairing the tournament, which donated $5,000.00 to the scholarship fund. Next month’s meeting is at Selva Marina Country Club on October 18, 2005.

Vice President-Tournaments, Jim Edwards, asked for reports from the tournament chairs.  Lee Crowe reported the Two-Man tournament will be at San Jose CC on October 3, 2005 with a 9:30 AM shot gun start and has 45 teams thus far. Frank Brough, Mixed Tourney chair, said the tournament to be held at Ravines Golf Club on November 12 & 13 will be a modified Pinehurst event. A special room rate of $59.00 per night has been set and practice rounds will cost $20.00. However, the greens are in bad shape at present and consideration will be given to changing the site. The cost is $200.00 per team. Don Haws indicated that the 2006 City Amateur will be held at Marsh Landing CC and Deerwood Country Club. The dates haven’t been set yet. Barney Poston reported the Father’s Day Tournament next year will be at Hidden Hills CC on June 24 & 25, 2006.

Scholarship fund contributions were received from Hyde Park MGA ($1,200.00), Country Club of Orange Park ($4,250.00), Fernandina Beach Golf Club ($250.00), Ponte Vedra Inn & Club ($5,100.00) and the management of Marsh Landing CC ($500.00). Tom Tierney reported that 25 scholarships have been awarded this year.

Ed Robinson was introduced as the new Director from Jacksonville Golf & Country Club.

Old Business

Jim Andrews enumerated bullet points regarding the benefits provided by JAGA. The points are posted on our web site for future reference and he urged the Directors to visit their general manager or head professional and offer JAGA’s support.

New Business

Ed Witten suggested JAGA hold more one day tournaments in the future.

Lee Crowe informed us that the Two Man Tourney will be held twice next year as a one day event in the spring and fall.

Marsh Creek Country Club will open on October 1 with new greens and Head Professional, Cary Splane, has offered to host a 2006 JAGA event at the club.

A discussion was held regarding the scholarship application process.

Carl Arnold acknowledged Bob Streightiff’s minutes as being the best recorded in a number of years and apologized for his comments at the July meeting.

Jerry Kay will mail the 2006 JAGA dues invoices in October. He and Bob Streightiff will develop a letter to send to prospective new member clubs.

Pairings Coordinator, Ed Tormollen, announced the pairings for the players.

The meeting adjourned at 11:20 A.M.
