Jacksonville Area Golf Association President, Jim Andrews called the meeting to order at 10:31 A.M. with 33 Directors and guests present. The Directors introduced themselves and their guests. Jim Lear, General Manager, welcomed us and made some comments regarding the golf course and lunch. Jessica Derbaum, scholarship winner from Champions Club, was introduced and she made a few comments thanking JAGA for her scholarship award this year. Secretary, Bob Streightiff’s minutes from the last meeting at Ponte Vedra Inn & Club were approved as posted on the web site. Treasurer, Jerry Kay reported a treasury balance of $10,068.85 with all bills paid. Vice President-Administration, Lee Crowe introduced Fred Seely and he picked Tom Tierney’s number as the winner of September’s meeting fee to be paid by Bailey Publishing. Lee indicated that eleven meeting dates for 2006 have been finalized with just one opening remaining and he hopes to schedule that meeting at Palencia. He urged the Directors to attend all meetings and suggested that attendance will be tracked next year. Lee asked for feedback on an article to appear in Golf News’ September issue regarding a couple JAGA directors. Each month Lee intends to write an article about two directors for the publication. October’s meeting will be at South Hampton Golf Club. Vice President-Tournaments, Jim Edwards, asked for reports from the tournament chairs. Al Levene reported the Juniors Tournament held August 1 & 2 at Jacksonville Beach Golf Club was very successful. He had 53 entries with 49 participants. Al thanked all the volunteers for their help and gave special recognition to Ed Tormollen for his assistance. He also presented a check for $147.31 to the scholarship fund. Lee Crowe reported the Bill Black Classic is about half full. The Two-Man tournament will be at San Jose CC on October 3, 2005 and has 29 teams thus far. Frank Brough, Mixed Tourney chair, said the tournament to be held at Ravines Golf Club on November 12 & 13 will be a modified Pinehurst event. A special room rate of $59.00 per night has been set and practice rounds will cost $20.00. Frank also reported that the Clay County Tournament has been scheduled for March 17-19, 2006. 22 students are on scholarships as a result of this annual event. Earl Kelly indicated the annual Octogenarian Tournament at Selva Marina CC will held on September 26, 2006. Scholarship fund contributions were received from Marsh Landing CC MGA ($500.00), Ravines Golf Club MGA ($300.00), Champions Club Senior MGA ($250.00). Tom Tierney also implored the directors to read all scholarship applications from their club before submission and also get the student involved and accountable for their submission. He reported that 27 scholarships have been awarded this year, but seven students have yet to submit grades from last semester and/or a letter of intent to continue in school. Old Business Earl Kelly reported on the progress of his book on the history of JAGA; founded in 1954. He is up to 1957 with his writing. Jim Andrews, Don Haws and Barney Poston visited with principals at World Golf Village and St. John’s Golf & CC regarding membership in JAGA beginning in 2006. Both clubs are interested and anticipate joining next year. Jerry Kay told us we have 44 paid clubs this year. Ed Witten has JAGA shirts for sale at $22.00. Jim Andrews responded to Steve Wyand’s request at the July meeting to enumerate bullet points regarding the benefits provided by JAGA. The points will be posted on our web site for future reference. New Business Ed Witten suggested two new golf clubs be contacted regarding membership in JAGA; Panther Creek and Eagle’s Landing at Oakleaf Plantation. Fred Seely said the January 2006 issue of Golf News will be the 20th anniversary issue and he asked for contributions from the directors.
