Jacksonville Area Golf Association President, Jim Andrews called the meeting to order at 10:30 A.M. with 96 Directors and guests present; including golf professionals, general managers and greens superintendents. Michelle Pollina, Marketing Director, welcomed us and made some comments regarding the golf course. Secretary, Bob Streightiff’s minutes from the last meeting at Queen’s Harbour Yacht & Country Club were approved as posted on the web site. Treasurer, Jerry Kay reported a treasury balance of $15,122.44 with the bills from the recent Father’s Day Tournament unpaid. Vice President-Administration, Lee Crowe introduced Melanie White and she picked Ed Bobola’s number as the winner of July’s meeting fee to be paid by Bailey Publishing. Lee also asked for two clubs to consider hosting a meeting in November or December 2006. Those two months remain open on the schedule. Vice President-Tournaments, Jim Edwards, asked for reports from the tournament chairs. In Barney Poston’s absence, Terry Williams reported on the Father’s Day Tournament. He indicated 104 players participated and Terry also announced the various flight winners. . Al Levene reported on the Juniors Tournament to held August 1 & 2 at Jacksonville Beach Golf Club. The Two Man tournament will be at San Jose CC on October 3, 2005. Don Haws reported that entries for the City Amateur are running very slow. We only have 20 entries for the qualifier on July 8 and two exempt entries thus far. After some discussion it was determined to hold the tournament regardless of the number of entries and the executive committee will determine any changes to be made for 2006 tournament. Some directors suggested eliminating the qualifier and shortening the number of days to 2 or 3 for the tournament. Don also asked for volunteers to help run the event and reminded the directors we need a new tournament chair for 2006. Scholarship Chair, Tom Tierney informed us that seven applicants for scholarships were awarded this year bringing our total number of students on board to 27. Trust fund donations were received from Orange Park MGA ($200.00), St. John’s County Golf Club ($250.00) and Hidden Hills Country Club ($1,000.00). Tom also read a letter from Earl Kelly, Past President, regarding the history of JAGA and what it’s done for golf in the area and the scholarships awarded to college students. A suggestion was made to publish the list of students on scholarship and Tom agreed to do so. President, Jim Andrews spoke about the JAGA scholarship program and also made other pertinent comments regarding JAGA’s contribution to the golfing community. He also thanked the Golf Professionals, General Managers, Golf News personnel and Gary Smits of the Florida Times Union for their continued support of JAGA. Old Business None New Business Jim Andrews mentioned a list of benefits JAGA provides member clubs and asked for any feedback on how to improve the organization.
