Jacksonville Area Golf Association President, Jim Andrews called the meeting to order at 10:28 A.M. with 48 Directors and guests present. Jim complimented Barney Poston for the new JAGA web site. Ed Brill, Head Pro, welcomed us and made some comments regarding the golf course. Secretary, Bob Streightiff’s minutes from the meeting at Fernandina Beach Golf Club were approved as posted. Treasurer, Jerry Kay reported a treasury balance of $8,522.70. He read a list of member clubs who are delinquent for 2005 dues. Jim Andrews volunteered to telephone each delinquent club. Vice President-Administration, Lee Crowe introduced the guest speaker,
Detective Mack Smith, of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office CSI unit. He gave a
very interesting presentation regarding his vocation. JAGA presented him with a
gift as a thank you. Vice President-Tournaments, Jim Edwards, was absent so Jim Andrews led the reporting of future tournaments. Barney Poston, Father’s Day Tournament chair, reminded us of the dates, June 25 & 26, and he has 18 entries thus far. Jim asked for someone to step forward to run the City Amateur in 2006. Don Haws would like to relinquish this responsibility after this year’s event. Al Levene reported on the Juniors tournament. Scholarship Chair, Tom Tierney informed us that he has seven applications thus far and the committee will meet this month to determine this year’s recipients. Trust fund donations were received from Jacksonville Beach Golf Club ($750.00), the North Florida Sports Foundation ($500.00) and Fred Seely ($100.00). Tom indicated he’s been approached about the possibility of JAGA donating to the North Florida Chapter of Golf Professionals to help fund the annual schooling expenses for an assistant pro that is pursuing his Class A status. After some general discussion, the matter was referred to the executive committee to review the concept. Old Business New Business Frank Brough indicated that the Clay County Juniors tournament would be held on July 24, 2005 at Orange Park CC. Pairings Coordinator, Ed Tormollen, announced the pairings for the golf. He also told the Directors that a new points handicap system would be tried until November and a decision would be made at that time regarding it’s permanency. He will use the average of the points achieved for the last three rounds played at a JAGA meeting. The meeting adjourned at 11:30 A.M. |
