Jacksonville Area Golf Association
Directors Meeting
Ravines Golf Club
March 15, 2005
President, Jim Andrews called the meeting to order
at 10:32 A.M. with 40 Directors and guests present. Ken Debusk, Ravines
owner, welcomed us and made some brief comments. Ryan Walter, Head Pro, made
some comments regarding the golf course and mentioned that the JAGA Mixed
Tournament will be held at the Ravines in November.
Acting Secretary, Barney Posten’s minutes from the
Sawgrass Country Club meeting were approved as posted.
Treasurer, Jerry Kay reported that the treasury
balance is $9,484.53. He read a list of member clubs who are delinquent for
2005 dues. Directors from those clubs were encouraged to have their clubs
remit payment.
Vice President-Administration, Lee Crowe asked the
Directors for approval to increase the monthly meeting cost to $45.00
effective May 2005. The request was motioned, seconded and approved after
discussion. Jerry Kay asked the directors to help him by bringing exact cash
or a check for $45.00. Lee also introduced Melanie White, Sales Director,
and Shawn Steele of Bailey Publishing.
In Jim Edwards absence, Lee Crowe reported all
tournaments have been scheduled for 2005. Tournament chairs Joe Power,
Seniors, Barney Posten, Father’s Day, Don Haws, City Amateur, Al Levene,
Juniors, all gave reports. Lee also mentioned the Two Man and Bill Black
tournaments will be held in October at San Jose CC and November at Ponte
Vedra CC respectively.
In Tom Tierney’s absence, Mike Cooper gave the
Scholarships report. He reminded the directors of the May 31, 2005 deadline
for scholarship applications.
Old Business
Barney Posten informed us that the web host change
went smoothly and no problems were incurred. We have a two-year contract
with the host who is located in Florida, which facilitates communication
when necessary. He asked those members who utilize dial up service for their
computers to inform him if their service is slow.
New Business
Pairings Coordinator, Ed Tormollen, recommended that
Barney Posten purge those directors from the JAGA directory who have become
inactive. Ed contacted fifteen clubs who failed to respond to his request to
participate in JAGA meetings. The list of clubs follows: Amelia Island
Plantation, Fiddlers Green, Jacksonville Golf & CC, Keystone Heights, Oak
Bridge, Osprey Cove, Pablo Creek, Palencia, Palm Coast, Pineview, Royal St.
Augustine, South Hampton, Suwannee, Westlands and Windsor Parke.
Jim Andrews asked for comments from the directors as
to why clubs should contribute to the JAGA scholarship fund. This request
and subsequent discussion was prompted by a scheduled meeting Jim has with
the Ponte Vedra MGA. Many suggestions were offered for Jim to use in his
discussion with his club members. Jim also asked the members to approach
their respective clubs for increased donations this year.
Charles Denny announced his pledge of $10,000.00 to
the scholarship fund.
Pairings Coordinator, Ed Tormollen announced the
pairings and hole assignments. Lee Crowe reminded the directors to sign up
for all meetings via the Internet or call Ed directly before the Thursday
deadline.
The meeting adjourned at 11:45 A.M.
Respectively submitted,
Bob Streightiff, Secretary
