JAGA DIRECTORS MEETING Windsor Park Golf Club 09/21/2004
President Don Haws called the meeting to order at 10:30 a.m. with 35 directors and guests present. President Haws introduced Mike Lynch, Head Pro, who welcomed us and advised that there was still some debris from the storms, but the course is in good shape. Secretary Jim Edwards’ minutes were approved even though it was discovered that once again they had not been posted. After much work, the problem has been fixed and minutes should be posted now. Treasurer Jerry Kay reported $4,656.75 in the bank and all bills paid. Report approved. Vice President of Administration, Jim Andrews, announced the October meeting will be at Jacksonville Golf and Country Club on the 20th. On November 21, we will be at Cimarone Golf Club and the Pro-President will be at Deercreek. Vice President of Tournaments, Lee Crowe, advised the Bill Black Tournament was a rain out, but everyone had a wonderful dinner and numerous door prizes were given out. The Ponte Vedra Golf Club gave out certificates to come back and play. Also, the JAGA Living Legend Awards for 2003, Jim Lear, 2004, Jim Howard were given out for helping JAGA. Lee then advised the Tournament had raised $6,000.00 for our Scholarships. Bill Black thanked everyone involved. Tournament Chair, Frank Brough, Two Man Best Ball needs players. This is at Mill Cove on the 23rd and 24th of September. Tournament Chair, Jim Andrews, Junior Tournament at Jax Beach on the 25th and 26th has been postponed and will be rescheduled. There was then much discussion on scheduling of our tournaments due to the lack of partication. Coordinating through the North Florida Golf News, sending flyers to each club as a reminder, and prominent displaying of our JAGA posters and entry forms was suggested. Scholarship Chairman, Tom Tierney was absent. Ed Witten complimented all involved in the Bill Black Tournament and advised that we now have 24 scholarship recipients at $1,000.00 per semester. Don Barker from Selva Marina MGA gave $8,500.00 and advised they had given over $42,000.00 over the last 6 years. Ken Debusk, owner of the Ravines Golf Club, gave $1,860.00 donation from their JAGA Scholarship Day. Vice President of Administration, Jim Andrews, reported that we have many open dates for Directors meeting next year. In January, we will be at Jax Beach, February at South Hampton, and Fernandina Beach in April. Steve Wyand said Sawgrass was available in February and he is to get with Mr. Andrews. Committee Meetings: Ways and Means-Andrews-Thank you letters to pros and general managers. Research new directors for clubs without directors for more participation. Tournament-Crowe-New flighting for senior’s tournament. 50-60 seniors, 60-70 super seniors, 70-80 grand seniors.Junior-Cooper-No report Rules-Arnold-Look at handicap for directors meetings rather than our current points system. Scholarship-Witten-Look into helping assistant pros move up the ladder with financial help from moneys raised for that purpose. Set up Sponsorship committee to look into sponsor’s possibility. This will be discussed at the Executive Board meeting at 8:00 a.m. at Jacksonville Golf and Country Club.
