JAGA DIRECTORS MEETING MINUTES

Marsh Creek Country Club

06/28/2004

President Don Haws called the meeting to order at 10:30 A.M. with 40 directors and guests present. President Haws introduced Tom Beringer, Pro, who welcomed us and advised the course was in great shape and we have it all to ourselves.

Introductions were made and new directors Terry Williams, Hidden Hills, Richard Bailey, Deerfield Lakes, Ed Bobola, NAS-Jax, Bud Markel, St. Johns County, and Frank Knafelc, Orange Park CC, who will be filling in for the injured Bob Reigel were introduced.

Secretary Jim Edwards noted a correction to the minutes of last month. Golf News donated proximity prizes at Hidden Hills. Barney Poston then advised that no minutes were posted as he had not received them. This was noted and they should be posted now.

Treasurer Jerry Kay advised we had approximately $8,622.10 in the bank and a new club member in NAS Jacksonville had joined.

Vice President of Administration, Jim Andrews, was absent so President Haws advised the next meeting is July 20th at the Champions Club with a 8:30 A.M. Golf Tee Time with a meeting to follow. Please be early for registration for golf. Peter Bragan, Jr. will be our speaker at lunch. Our August meeting will be at Palatka Golf Club.

Vice President of Tournaments, Lee Crowe, had Barney Poston report on our Father’s Day Tournament at Hidden Hills. We had 80 players including 8 teams in the Professional Flight. The tournament raised $548.93 for the Scholarship Fund.

President Haws reported the Mid-Am Tournament raised $295.25 for our scholarships. The City Amateur is coming up with a qualifier at Selva Marina on July 9th with the tournament set for July 22 through 25 at Selva Marina and Queens Harbor. We need lots of help. Vice President Lee Crowe gave report for Jim Andrews on our Junior Tournament at Jacksonville Beach Golf Club on August 14th and 15th. The Bill Black Golf Classic will be at the Ocean Course at Ponte Vedra Inn and Club on September 13th. It is a 1:30 P.M. Shotgun. Captain’s choice format with Scratch and Handicap Divisions.

Scholarship Chairman, Tom Tierney, reported we have 10 new scholarship recipients and a total of 27 now. The Men’s Associations of Deercreek gave $205.00 and Plantation $200.00 to our scholarship fund.

President Haws reported on a meeting held by 12 past JAGA Presidents. Bart O’Leary, Past President, gave an overview of the meeting that included preservation of old minutes, etc. He then asked for input from the directors in how they as past presidents could be of help to JAGA. Frank Powell recommended they serve as ambassadors of JAGA to recruit new golf clubs. More to follow as Haws requested more input from our directors.

President Haws then asked Tom Tierney to introduce our speaker, Tom Miller, Tour Caddie for over 20 years and son of Past President Norman (Sonny) Miller. We had a wonderful question and answer session with many very interesting observations about players, caddies, and tournaments.

Pairings Coordinator, Bob Streightiff, gave us our pairings and starting holes. It is very very very important to be early next month for our 8:30 A.M. start. It is also very important to sign up early and if you can’t make it, advise us immediately. If you have questions or changes at the last minute, please call Bob Streightiff. Be early!

Respectfully Submitted,

Jim Edwards
