JACKSONVILLE
AREA GOLF ASSOCIATION
DIRECTORS
MEETING
MAGNOLIA
POINT GOLF CLUB
JUNE 17, 2003
President Don Haws opened the meeting at
10:00 a.m.
There were 29 directors and 3 guests in attendance. Jim Edwards is
currently subbing for Jerry Kay as Treasurer. Jerry had triple bypass
surgery and is doing fine. We currently have $14,187.03 in the till with
but a few bills outstanding. Jim Andrews, VP of Administrations,
reported the location of our next meeting as San Jose Country Club on
July 15, 2003
. This meeting will include as many of our scholarship recipients as
possible. Our August 12th meeting will be at Ponte Vedra Inn
& Club and will include as many GMs and Pros as possible. Lee Crowe
reported for Barney Poston that we had 48 teams for the Father/Son
Tournament. They gave away a wide variety of prizes and all but one team
seemed to have a good time. Lee also reported that all the preparations
for The Bill Black Tournament are going well. Bart O’Leary reported
that the JAGA-AM will have on
July 11, 2003
a qualifier at Deercreek. The field will be limited to 60 players with
the first round at Deercreek on
July 18, 2003
. Rounds two and three will be at Deerwood on July 19th &
20th, 2003, with the field being reduced to the low 30 and
ties for the last day. So far, 22 people have signed up for the
qualifier and 3 of the exempt players have signed up for the tournament.
Jim Andrews reported that the Junior Tournament will be held at
Westlands Golf Course this year on August 10th & 11th,
2003. Six players have already signed up. Tom Tierney, Scholarships,
reported that the committee met on
June 5, 2003
and awarded the 10 open scholarships for next fall. The following
donations to our scholarship fund were given to Tom: Deercreek Men’s
Assoc. $200.00 and
Plantation
$150.00 We then broke up into our committees.
Committee Reports:
Ways
and Means: There was much discussion about going back to
10:30 a.m.
as our meeting time and it appears that we will, but not before our
September meeting. Should we enforce the rule that only members of
member golf courses should be eligible for our tournaments? To help
answer this question, they wanted input from the other directors.
Tournaments:
They talked about lending our JAGA name to a few of the well-run
tournaments in our area. No decision reached.
Scholarships:
Discussion on how to raise more money and the need to get a list
of people on scholarships out to all the member courses.
No
report from Junior Golf nor Rules.
The pairings were given out and the
meeting was adjourned at
11:32 a.m.
Cordially,
Mike Cooper
Secretary
