DIRECTOR'S MEETING
FEBRUARY 17, 2003
MILL COVE GOLF CLUB
President Don Haws called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m. Don
reported that the JAGA Charitable Trust Committee meeting was held just
prior to this meeting. The following officers were elected for the Trust
Committee: Don Haws, Chairman; Jim Andrews, Vice Chairman; Ed Witten,
Treasurer; and Mike Cooper, Secretary. This is consistent with the by-laws
of the trust. Don also reported on the recent passing of Joseph A.
Letterman. Joe was a founding trustee of our scholarship fund and past
president of JAGA. There were thirty-two directors and three guests
present. We were welcomed to Mill Cove by T. C. Newman, Owner.
Minutes of the last meeting were approved as amended (added the fact
that the Hidden Hills Men's Golf Association donated $500 to the
scholarship fund at the January 2003 meeting.. Treasurer
Jerry Kay reported a cash balance of $6,247.36 in the bank and that all
bills have been paid. The new plaques for each member club were
distributed to those directors for delivery to the clubs who are up to
date with their dues. Vice President of Tournaments Lee Crowe reported
that our Seniors Tournament at Eagle Harbor already has 32 people signed
up. The Bill Black Memorial Tournament is scheduled for October 4th.
Scholarships Ed Witten reported that only one student has not contacted
him. The Gab Summers Scholarship Fund had a balance of $241,546.40 as of
December 31, 2002. A total of $3,000.00 was spent out of this fund last
year. This fund must be maintained at a balance in current value equal to
the $100,000.00 donated at the start of the fund. There will be a total of
seven scholarships available this May as of now. Donations were received
from Queens Harbor MGA of $1,000.00 and Timuquana MGA FSGA OF $1,115.00.
Bart O'Leary reminded everyone that the rules seminar was going to be held
at Timuquana on February 18, 2003.
Committee reports are as follows:
Ways and Means - Jim Andrews
For all tournaments, the member club's dues must be current for the
players from those clubs to participate.
Rules/Handicap - Carl Arnold
Any and all information we have on rules, etiquette and handicaps will be
made available to those who request it.
Junior Golf - Dean Blankenship
The group is going to canvas the member clubs about their interest in
having inner-club matches between teams during the summer months.
Scholarships - Ed Witten
There was discussion about revisions to the qualifying process.
