MEETING MINUTES
June
18, 2002
Queen's
Harbour Yacht & Country Club
Meeting was called to order at 10:05 a.m.
by President Bart O’Leary. There were 42 directors and guests present.
Officers present were President Bart O’Leary, Executive Secretary Bill
Black, Vice President Don Haws, Vice President of Tournaments Jim
Andrews, Secretary Lee Crowe, Treasurer Jerry Kay and Scholarships Ed
Witten. Secretary’s report was accepted without being read.
Treasurer’s report was given by
Jerry Kay. There’s a balance of $15,291.51 in the bank with
approximately $9,000.00 to be paid out of this account. Don Haws, Vice
President of Administrations, announced the July 16th meeting
at Selva Marina would be Scholarship Day and there will be several new
scholarship recipients at the meeting. The August meeting will be at
Palm Coast’s Matanzas Woods. Don still needs 4 more clubs to host
meetings in 2003. Jim Andrews, Vice President of Tournaments, asked
Barney Poston to give report on Fathers Day Tournament. There were 96
players and the event was very successful. Barney presented a check for
$356.92 for the Scholarship Fund. Bart spoke about JAGA Hillyer City
Amateur Championship. Qualifying will be at Deerwood Country Club on
July 12th. The tournament will be July 19-21 at Deerwood and
Deercreek. Lee Crowe discussed the Two-Man Championship coming September
19-20 at Windsor Park Golf Club. Jim Andrews discussed the AJGA
Tournament on July 8-11. Jim also mentioned
that the Hayes Farley Tournament was a great success. Boots Farley gave
a special thanks to JAGA for all the players and donations. Boots has
always been a special friend to JAGA. Ed Brook, Host Pro, welcomed JAGA
to Queen's Harbour. Ed Witten announced the results on new scholarship
recipients. There were 18 applications and there were 12 scholarships
issued. The new scholars are listed below:

Congratulations to all of these scholarship
recipients.
Old business: Bart delivered a load of clubs and accessories to
Timuquana to be distributed. He also picked up clubs from Orange Park
Country Club. He read a letter from Dean Blankenship thanking JAGA for
all gifts.
New business: Bart presented the list of committees. We need volunteers
for these committees which will be formed at the August meeting. The
list is attached for those who were unable to attend the meeting in
June. Please contact Bart if you can serve on any of these committees.
We sure could use your help. Joe Louis Barrow, Jr., our guest speaker,
told us about the First Tee Program. This program began in 1997 and the
growth has been tremendous. He gave us a complete overview of the
program. We had a good question & answer session. Meeting was
adjourned at 11:45 for lunch. Jim Edwards gave golf pairings.

COMMITTEES
The following are temporary
committees appointed by the President of the Jacksonville Area Golf
Association. These committees are intended to focus on the principle
areas of interest within the Association and to provide information and
assistance to the President and the Executive Committee in implementing
action to improve the Association. The committees will meet at least
once each quarter under the direction of the Chair appointed by the
President:
1. TOURNAMENT COMMITTEE:
Scope: Will plan for all tournaments conducted
by JAGA. Will coordinate
with other organizations conducting tournaments (USGA,
FSGA, Northern
Chapter PGA, etc.) to minimize conflicts and to enhance
participation for
all events. Will establish Conditions of Competition for
all tournaments and
select appropriate venues for all competitions.
2. JUNIOR GOLF COMMITTEE:
Scope: Will develop,
coordinate, and oversee programs by which all youth
have
the opportunity to learn the game of golf and to be able to compete
at
an appropriate skill level. Special consideration will be given to
coordinating
the efforts of the USGA Golf Foundation, First Tee, Northern
PGA,
FSGA, and other youth programs within the JAGA member area.
3. RULES, HANDICAP & ETIQUETTE COMMITTEE:
Scope: Will develop, coordinate, and
oversee programs which will provide
member clubs with information, seminars, and other
activities to ensure
that their membership and committees have access to the
latest
information to allow them to conduct events and
competitions in
accordance with the rules and programs developed by the
USGA.
4. SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE:
Scope: Will develop, coordinate, and
oversee programs to assist JAGA
and its member clubs in improving fund raising programs for the
JAGA
Trust. Will provide information to the JAGA Trust Trustees on
appropriate
scholarship levels and needs of the JAGA scholars.
Will implement a
JAGA Scholars Alumni Association to enhance the visibility and
recognition of the JAGA Scholarship Program.
5. WAYS & MEANS COMMITTEE:
Scope: Will develop, coordinate, and
oversee programs to enhance
membership by all clubs within the JAGA area, and to improve
publicity for
JAGA programs and initiatives. Will identify and coordinate with
other
organizations and agencies wishing to promote interest and
participation in
the game of golf in the JAGA area. Will develop and maintain a
long-range
plan to ensure that JAGA continues to meet the needs of its
member clubs
in the future.
