The meeting was called to order at
10:30 a.m. by President Bart O’Leary. Officers present were President
Bart O’Leary, Vice President of Tournaments Jim Andrews, Executive
Secretary Bill Black, Secretary Lee Crowe, Treasurer Jerry Kay and
Scholarships Ed Witten. There were 36 directors and guests present.
(Where were all the other directors?!?)
Introduction of the directors followed. Don Barbaras & Mike Caponi
were introduced as the new directors from Fiddlers Green. The
Secretary’s report was read and accepted. Lee also mentioned sending a
special thanks to Sawgrass Country Club for the great treatment we
received at the January meeting. Treasurer Jerry Kay said we have
$5,558.91 in the bank and that all of the bills for the Pro-President
Tournament were paid. He also read the names of the 16 clubs who have
not paid their 2002 membership dues. Vice President of Administrations
Don Haws was out of town. Vice President of Tournaments Jim Andrews
spoke about upcoming tournaments. Warren Healy, Co-Chairman for the
seniors event, spoke about the Seniors Tournament to be held at Eagle
Harbour March 25th, 26th & 27th. Jim Edwards, Chairman of the Spring
Mixed, spoke about this tournament to be held at Fernandina Beach April
27th & 28th. Bill Black, Chairman for the Mid-Am said that this
tournament is to be held at Magnolia Point on May 3rd & 4th. Jim
Andrews said that advertising in the Golf News was very extensive. Homer
Nix introduced the new holders for the applications to be posted at all
clubs. He also showed us how to use the new holders and how to exhibit
them. Ed Witten, Scholarships, read a “Thank You” card from Keri
Dedicos, a recent JAGA scholarship graduate. Scholarship donations were
as follows: Ponte Vedra $4,000.00; Timuquana $1,330.00; and Magnolia
Point $400.00. Bart talked about FSGA rules seminar coming up on
February 26th at Timuquana Country Club. The time is 8:30
a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The next meeting will be held at Keystone Heights in March. Our guest
speaker will be the President of the FSGA. The Pro-President meeting
will be held December 9, 2002 instead of December 2, 2002. Bart spoke
about the directors talking to their pros about the 5 areas to promote
golf at their club. He also announced that the new 2002 directories are
available. Frank Scruby mentioned collecting golf equipment for the
Junior golfers. Bart said that all the information is on the JAGA web
site. Dan Meinert, Program Director, introduced John Randall of First
Coast Golf as our guest speaker. John had a great array of information
and presented it very well. He is truly a great friend of JAGA and golf.
Jim Edwards announced golf pairings. We adjourned for lunch at 11:40.
